The FIM Heritage
Programme
The 4 categories
of FIM Heritage
certification.
Motorcycle eligibility
All categories of speed motorcycles that have competed in national, international and world championships (World Championship Grand Prix, Superbike and Supersport, Endurance, Road Races and all former championships ) are eligible for certification, from the time they are retired from competition, so there is no minimum age.
Machines built after the initial period for participation in “classic” motorcycle championships are not eligible for the FIM Heritage Programme due to the risk of confusion between original machines used in their era and machines made recently and especially for these vintage races with modern technologies and components. The concept of “preservation of heritage” is not applicable to these machines.
The 4 categories of FIM certification
HISTORIQUE
An original racing motorcycle whose history, origin and condition are known and attested to by evidence: period testimonials, invoices, race records, photo folder for unique machines.
ORIGINALE
An original racing motorcycle in the condition it was in when it was ridden in competition but whose history is not known or cannot be confirmed in the absence of evidence.
EVOCATION
An original racing motorcycle presented in a decoration with which it has no historical connection.
REPLICA
A replica is a machine reproduced in its entirety – chassis and engine with all components – exactly like the original.
Application process
This service is offered to all collectors/owners worldwide and all owners must provide very comprehensive information about their machine in a confidential file submitted through a web application.
The owner must create their own secure personal space in which to manage their machines.
The owner undertakes that the information provided is accurate and true and must provide technical or historical information and evidence as described in the rules.
If a misleading statement is made, the machine’s certification may be revoked and the owner may be forbidden from making new applications.
Owners remain anonymous but have control over developments in relation to their machine. If something necessitating a change of category for a machine happens, the owner can go into their personal space to request a change, depending on the developments that have occurred.
Likewise, the owner can be changed if the machine changes hands.
The documentation will be studied and evaluated by the Certification Technical Committee.
The certification
Certification leads to classification in a FIM category and generates a unique identification number, which the machine will have throughout its lifetime – a FIM identification plate and a secure digital certificate are assigned and provided for every machine.
Certified machines are automatically registered in the FIM Heritage Programme database.
The FIM certification service is charged for at the rates in force in the application.
Certification fees
The fee for the certification is 500 €.
Payment is made when the documentation is submitted and includes:
- Certification with digital certificate and FIM plate
- Inclusion in FIM database
- Permanent validity
- Change of owner, including contact details
- Possibility of changing category
The fee for the certification for multiple machines is as follows:
- 5 to 10 machines: €400
- 11 or more machines: €300
Certificate of authenticity QR code
Every machine receives a certificate of authenticity and an identification plate with a QR code. Owners’ data is kept confidential in the database.
But at each event and on the FIM-Heritage website, the public will shortly be able to search the database by make, model, technical data, etc.
The plate with the QR code affixed to every machine will enable everyone to view a motorcycle factsheet in real time on their mobile phones.
